A Look at Standalone Desktops

First off, what exactly is a Standalone Desktop in DaDesktop?

You can find a comprehensive overview of the different Desktops here. To put it simply, a 'Standalone' desktop isn't necessarily tied to an active course. It exists independently and can be used before a course starts, after it wraps up, or entirely on its own with no course connection.
That flexibility is one of its strongest assets.

Why you might want a Standalone desktop:
  1. To create training materials that can be reused again and again, outside the scope of any particular course, or saved for whenever you need them.
  2. When you need a flexible workspace to safely test ideas, perhaps on a different operating system like Linux or Windows.

Features:
  1. Shareable links give full access to anyone who has them.
  2. Automatically shuts down after 24 hours if not being used.
Cost:
  1. Creating a desktop is free.
  2. Launching it, however, will incur a charge.
  3. The cost depends on the number of units, calculated from CPU, memory, and disk space. Windows adds an extra fee.
  4. Joining a course as a student or trainer provides you with free credits you can spend on standalones.
  5. If you don't connect to your standalone for over a month, it will be removed.

Usage Tip:

Begin with "clonefrom#" followed by a keyword to search for desktops based on what they were cloned from.
